Abkhazia Now Recognized by Four Countries

The Georgian separatist region of Abkhazia was recognized on Tuesday as independent by the Pacific Ocean island country of Nauru. Nauru follows Russia, Venezuela, and Nicaragua in recognizing Abkhazia. It is know yet known if Nauru will also recognize Georgia's other breakaway region of South Ossetia. According to The New York Times Nauru's foreign minister "promised to secure recognition for Abkhazia from other Pacific island nations."
